After two years in development, VLC, the popular open-source player has just moved from the 0.8.x versions to version 0.9.2. The newly updated software remains small and lightweight while bringing a new interface for Windows and Linux systems as well as new inputs, more codec support and new on the fly audio and video filters.

In addition to playing just about anything you can throw at it, VLC can also transcode videos and songs from one format to another – sans watermarks or limitations whatsoever.
